Teatime Tutors Mock Test Day FAQ

We have tried to cover all questions you might have, but if we have missed something, please do not hesitate to contact us with your query.

Why is it good for my child to attend the Mock Exam?

Staying calm on the day and performing to one’s best ability is a large part of achieving successful exam results. Our Mock Exam days can help children build confidence, overcome nerves and perfect exam technique including timing. They also allow children to experience and deal with other aspects of exam conditions, such as:

  • filling in their personal information (Name, DOB, Name of Primary School etc.)  and student number, reading instructions etc.

  •  managing time

  •  managing breaks including loo breaks

  •  distractions by other students ( muttering, shaking, coughing etc.) and invigilating teachers (walking past the desks, talking in low voices, looking over shoulders at pupils work etc.)

When and where are the Mock Exam Days?

We have a classroom at The Aspire Centre in Wandsworth, which we set up as an exam room. As many schools nowadays place children in smaller groups rather than having hundreds of children in a large hall, we have set our Mock Exam days up in a similar way.  All children will have their own traditional exam desk and chair which are all set out in rows.

Can my child attend more than one Mock Exam day?

Yes. We feel that it is beneficial to attend up to 3 of our exams days; this provides your child with other opportunities  to build on aspects that may have been highlighted as areas for improvement after the other exams.

Are the same exam papers used on each day?

We provide a number of different papers which we have specifically written for our Mock Exam days and which are not publicly available. Therefore, children will be able to attend various days.  These are bespoke to the school that your child is sitting for.

How many places do you have?

We believe that feedback is crucial for children to learn from their mistakes and to develop their exam skills and techniques.  Therefore, to be able to do this effectively, we have limited places to 20 so that we can offer individual feedback to parents and children.

What is the structure of the Mock Exam Days?

08:30               Registration

 08:40               Exam 1 Maths

 09:40               Break

 10:00               Exam 2 Reasoning

 11.00               Break

 11.20               Exam 3 English

 12.30               End of Exam Day

What is the time allowed for each paper?

We understand that different schools have different timings for their papers ranging from 30 minutes to 1 hour 15 minutes. And on that bases we have written our papers to try to accommodate these timings by setting an average time.

Are the test papers in standard or multiple-choice format?

Different schools use different formats, however most use standard formatted papers.  We have written our exam papers mostly in standard format but have added a multiple choice section to each exam so children can familiarise themselves with answering such questions and, in some subjects, using a multiple-choice answer sheet.

What if my child isn’t sitting all subjects?

Even if your child's real exam does not include all of the subjects we cover on our Mock Exam days, there will be a lot of cross-over in the core skills required to complete each exam.  There is also great value in analysing your child's scores across all the subjects when assessing their exam performance and areas requiring further work.

What is the cost of attending our Mock Exam Day?

Each Mock Exam Day covers English, maths and reasoning and costs £180. For 2 exams with a 20% discount it costs £288 and for 3 (25% discount) £405.

This includes:

  • Mock Exam attendance

  • Your child’s marked tests and results

  • Summary of your child's strengths & areas in need of improvement.

  • Helpful hints and tips emailed to you to help your child consolidate their areas for improvement

  • Juice and snack during the breaks

What must my child take to the mock exam day?

Please ensure your child arrives with two pens, a few pencils, a good eraser, a ruler, a sharpener and a good night’s sleep. Stationery should be carried into the exam room in a clear plastic pencil case / bag.

There will be two breaks during which your child will have a chance to take a quick loo break and enjoy a drink and snack. We operate a No Nuts policy however please let us know if your child has any other dietary requirements.

When will we get the results?

We aim to have all the papers marked within 5/10 working days.  Once they are marked and moderated, we will be in touch to arrange a convenient time to meet to discuss your child’s results.

What is the Refund/Amendment Policy?

Mock Exam Bookings are NON-REFUNDABLE since spaces are limited. We regret that we cannot refund session bookings unless the test day in question is cancelled by us or details of the test day are significantly changed by us (for example, time, venue, date etc).

How can I book a place for my child at one of the mock exam days?

Either by calling Tash on 07768 768 373 or emailing her at tash@teatimetutors.co.uk

What proof of booking is required?

Please ensure you have a copy of your order confirmation email.

May I settle my child in the exam room?

Registration will take place in the entrance hall where you child will be given a sticker with their name and candidate number. To make the process as ‘real’ as possible for the children, you ask that you drop them at the entrance hall and will not be allowed to accompany them into the exam room itself

Can I wait at the venue while my child sits the exams?

Unfortunately, there is no facility within the venue for parents to wait, however there are a selection of lovely coffee shops in close proximity.

Can I see my child between tests?

Unfortunately not, as this can cause disruption to the flow of the session and again, does not give a true representation of what will happen in their real exams. We, therefore, ask that parents do NOT return until the end of the session.

I have another question, who should I contact?

Please either email us on tash@teatimetutors  or call Tash on 07768 768 373
